In addition to the 16-inch MBP, is there any other features?
From the perspective of rumors, Apple is likely to launch a 16-inch MacBook Pro this fall. Unlike the previous upgrades, the appearance of this MBP will change greatly with some upgraded features.
1. Design of narrow border screen
Since the introduction of iPhone X’s “Infinity Display”, MacBook series has also introduced this design. The truth is that iPad Pro took the lead to be the second Apple device with the infinite display, and MacBook Pro is likely to become the third.
According to media reports, the screen of the new MacBook Pro will have a narrow bezel, so that the its overall size shall expand to 16 inches when its screen is 15 inches. And according to the supply chain, the screen of the 16-inch MacBook Pro will be produced by LG with a resolution of 3072 x 1920, and is likely to support the original color display technology.
2. Face ID
For the first time, Apple added TouchID to the 2016 MacBook Pro, allowing users to unlock their devices with their fingerprints. With the introduction of the ultra-narrow bezel design of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, FaceID is also likely to replace TouchID as a new biometric feature.
In fact, Apple has proven the feasibility of the “four-sided narrow border + FaceID” design in the 2018 iPad Pro. Compared with the mobile phone where every inch is precious, FaceID on iPad and MacBook is more feasible from the perspective of aesthetics (no need for bangs) or functional feasibility.
3. Newly designed scissor foot keyboard
In last year’s update for 2018 MacBook Pro, Apple added a silicone film to the butterfly keyboard, hoping to fix problems such as dusty and sticky keys. However, the effect was not good from the user response. Apple apologized for the keyboard experience after the launch of the 2018 MacBook Pro for half a year, and provided a four-year free repair service. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is likely to abandon the butterfly keyboard and turn to the scissor keyboard design.
According to Chinese analyst Guo Minghao, Apple will enhance the button structure by adopting the newly designed scissor keyboard and fiberglass in the new MacBook Pro to improve keyboard typing and durability.
4. ARM chip
At present, it is still uncertain whether the “Apple chip” will appear on the 16-inch MacBook Pro. But for Apple, the risk of switching from Intel to ARM-based Apple chips is less risky comparing to most other companies.
The research and development of Apple A series chips has been in full swing. Last year, the A12X biochip on iPad Pro has been comparable to the Intel Core i7-based MacBook Pro in terms of primitive computing power. At the same time, the ARM chip has a greater advantage in terms of power consumption and battery life. On the ecological side, Apple is also working hard to build the bridge between for applications between iOS and Mac. For example, Project Cataylst released at the WWDC this year will help developers port iOS apps to macOS.
Other than the above, what new features do you wish MacBook Pro to add?
