Apple: It is easy to transfer iOS apps to macOS, but no merging

by removeos_admin

Federighi emphasizes that macOS will never merge with iOS, not even for a touch screen.

At WWDC a few days ago, Apple shared a tool for developers to efficiently transfer iOS apps to macOS, announcing the feature will be available for third-party developers by 2019. But we still have many doubts. Wired has published the interview of Craig Federighi, Apple’s software engineering supervisor, who gave specific answers about this transfer project.

Federighi expressed that this project was established two years ago mainly involved the update for UIkit, as Apple needed to make this iOS frame works for macOS. He also emphasized that it did not mean macOS would be able to run iOS App right after this, it is not automatic. Developers will need to do some extra programming.

How to change the folder display settings on Mac

by removeos_admin

One user said he still failed to list all the files in the same display type, then he found out that the setting “View display options” is effective only under current directory, so he came up with the following steps:

macos

2. Choose the display type you want, e.g. icon (Command + 1), list (Command + 2), column (Command + 3), then press Command + J at the same time or click the pinion to open “View display options”.

3. Adjust the display size you want.

6. In the window of Force Quit, select “Finder” and click “Restart”.

How to quickly finish updating macOS?

by removeos_admin

Isn’t it boring when updating macOS, all you can do is waiting and watching the progress bar? Lately a user posted on Reddit to share a Terminal command that can speed up macOS update.

macos

The user said it usually takes half an hour to update macOS through the App Store. macOS now has a built-in utility that quickens the update, and users can use their devices while updating the system.

The user also said it only took him 10 minutes to finish updating to the latest version of macOS 12.6. The device needs to restart during the update, so you won’t be able to use your device for about 2 minutes.  The user suggested using the following commands for update:

softwareupdate -l

softwareupdate -i -a

The first one is to check for updates, the second is to install the update. During the process you’ll be prompted to restart the device.

The post soon received replies – another user discovered a method with higher efficiency. This user said executing “sudo softwareupdate -ia;sudo reboot” command will automatically do the tasks one by one, so that during the update you can put the device aside and do other things.

Another method is to execute “sudo sh -c “softwareupdate -ia && sudo reboot” command. The device will restart after the first task is done, and you’ll be prompted if the device fails to restart.

The last but the better way is to execute “sudu sh -c “softwareupdate -ia && reboot” command.

Well, no matter which way you choose to update the device, backup is always suggested.

See what’s new on Safari 11

by removeos_admin

Apple has declared war against annoying auto-playing videos and creepy ad tracking across the websites users visit. In High Sierra, the company has ramped up Safari’s capabilities to shield users against both. And these auto-playing defenses are incredibly effective so far.

21

You can set preferences for individual websites or a blanket rule that bans all autoplay, only stops content with sound, or lets everything play:

I haven’t found any site that can successfully break through Safari’s new safeguards against unexpected media playback. Loading animations made clear that sites were trying to auto-play something, but they still failed. Apple insists that it’s way faster than Chrome.

With the new update, though, Safari lets you make it the default way to view web pages, where possible. You can also choose to have the Reader mode activated just for specific websites.

Tutorials: Disable Touch Bar text prediction on MBP

by removeos_admin

Previous report said law students who have bought the 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar must disable the Touch Bar functions when attending the bar examination 2017, because Touch Bar can predict text according to the words typed in.

During the exam, the Bar Examination Committee will disable MacBook Pro from accessing the Internet, apps and files, but Touch Bar on MacBook Pro can break these restrictions, that’s why Touch Bar must be disabled.

ExamSoft, the company that provides exam management solutions, said that Touch Bar’s text prediction will effect the completeness of the exam. Let’s see how to disable the text predction of Touch Bar on MacBook Pro.

  1. Open the System Preferences.
  2. Click Keyboard.
  3. In the Keyboard window you can see two drop-down menus. In the first drop-down menu (Multi-Touch Bar), select Unfolded Control Strip.
  4. In the second drop-down menu, select Display F1, F2, etc.

After finishing the above settings, you will see the Touch Bar displays default function keys. The text prediction can be restored anytime it’s needed.

Be careful! Two malware appeared on Mac

by removeos_admin

Recently two Mac malware respectively called “MacSpy” and “MacRansom” which attack through MaaS and RaaS have been discovered on Dark Web.

2

They both came from the same malware developer, but security companies Fortinet and AlienVault thought the developer is inexperienced, pointing out that the malware don’t have digital signature file, which means macOS that has protective measures can detect them and send alerts. Researchers called MacSpy a “better coding tool”, MacRansom is a more dangerous malware due to its ability of permanently destroying users’ files.

Fortunately, MacSpy and MacRansome haven’t spread widely, because the developer requires contact from customers for direct price negotiation. Meanwhile, Mac security researcher Patrick Wardle said Internet criminals have been focusing on Mac more and more. Researcher Ruben Dodge said that users of macOS and iOS need to be much more careful, because it’s very likely they will be targets of hackers. Despite that fact that MacSpy and MacRansom haven’t infected many computers, there can be a very powerful malware awaiting in the near future.

Although Mac computer is considered safer than Windows PC, but lately the number of outlaws targeting Mac is growing.

Apple has rolled out the first beta of macOS 10.12.6 for developer testing. This update is likely for bug fixing and security improvements.

Releases notes for the update can be seen by developers through the Mac App Store, but no specific focus areas are mentioned.

One day after the public release of macOS 10.12.5, which was previously only available for developers and public beta testers, the first beta of macOS 10.12.6 was released.

Now registered developers can download macOS 10.12.6; a public beta version may be released shortly.

We will update if any features are discovered in the new update.

Access NTFS read-write functions on macOS Sierra

by removeos_admin

This has been tested successfully on macOS Sierra. I put NTFS in another disk partition (also works for mobile HDD). There are many similar articles on the Internet, but none of them said the test was successful, probably because of different system versions. I couldn’t index NTFS disk, even after we tried to recreate system index, there were still missing files for unknown.

Return to the subject, here are the steps:

1. Open the Terminal, enter the following command to view disk information – your partitions under Name (Mine are C, D, E, F).

diskutil list

21

2. Check /etc/fstab files – fstab is a text file, which should be empty if it hasn’t been modified. This file is used to configure file system, and all your plug-in partitions must be in this file, otherwise they won’t be added the next time you start up. You’re suggested using Notepad to modify, just enter the this command:

sudo nano /etc/fstab

Then enter the system password (it will skip if no password has been set), you will see the file content.

3. Type the following commands. The “C, D, E ,F” represent my NTFS partitions, just replace them with your partition names, each line for one partition. Use \404 to replace blank space in your volume labels if there is any. When you finish typing in these commands, press ctrl + X, and the Notepad will ask you whether to save it. Chooose “yes” and exit.

LABEL=C none ntfs rw,auto,nobrowse

LABEL=D none ntfs rw,auto,nobrowse

LABEL=E none ntfs rw,auto,nobrowse

LABEL=F none ntfs rw,auto,nobrowse

4. Eject the mobile HDD/Plug in the computer, use an uninstall tool for removal, then successively add them in the disk utility.

5. Enter the following command to mount the disk volume lables (If you can’t perform this step, it may not be seen in Finder).

sudo In -s /Volumes ~/Desktop/Volumes

iOS 10.3.2 beta 3 released to continue fixing bugs

by removeos_admin

Days ago Apple has rolled out macOS 10.12.5 beta 3, watchOS 3.2.2 and tvOS 10.2.1 for developers. This update is still mainly for fixing bugs and improving device stability & security.

3

iOS 10.3.2 beta 3 doesn’t have anything new either but bug fixes and performance improvements mainly.

Without any important new features added, MacOS 10.12.5 beta 3 fixed some issues found in macOS 10.12.4, which was launched on March 27. Surely macOS 10.12.5 will continue improving stability, compatibility and security of Mac devices.

Apple last month has brought us macOS 10.12.4, but quite a number of users said it negatively effected the sound quality of USB headset, causing staccato, distortion, etc. Some said the newly installed macOS 10.12.4 can’t fix the problem, only restoring to macOS 10.12.3 or lower does. Hopefully this version can solve that.

In macOS 10.12.4 Apple for the first time adopted Night Shift, meanwhile PDFKit API has been improved, and brand new data statistics have been added for iCloud.
